Teen Leadership Academy When our youth complete the Teen Leadership Program, "Torch" - they have been looking for what’s next. The Teen Leadership Academy is what’s next! The Teen Leadership Academy will give our youth the next step in our giving them a hope and a future by exposing them to workshops, training, education, and mentoring that will help them on the path of being successful personally and be a positive contributor to our community. The following are offered as part of the Academy: •Mentoring and Counseling •Participation in our Debutante program •Coaching from Business Leaders •Workshops (e.g., Cyber Safety/Bullying, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, etc.) •Educational and Recreational Opportunities •Financial Literacy/Education
We also offer two unique opportunities:
Youth Worker Certification - is designed for professionals who work with youth and helps them understand why they get stuck and how to reach them on a deeper level. You learn how to help them move forward in life and become employable. This training discusses early childhood, nurturing, their thought process, bullying and much more. It gives youth workers skills in teaching emotional intelligence by the connections they create with their youth clients and the relationships they build with them. There are even segments on how they view their role as youth workers and their own behavior and attitudes. This course is certified and approved for continuing education credits [1.0 CEU per each hour of training] by the National Council on Family Relations.
Youth Program Certification - is designed to train youth workers on business etiquette skills in a mock business meeting and provide coaching skills to them on how THEY in turn will coach the youth. The youth clients are then brought in and the youth workers lead this business meeting, coaching and training their youth clients. We also teach the youth to develop presentations on topics of their choice, presenting them at the front of the room, and practicing professional business etiquette skills such as handshakes, eye contact, communication skills, leadership skills and even appearance–the skills needed for successful job interviews! Only youth who have successfully completed the Teen Leadership workshop can participate in theTeen Leadership Academy.
Workshops: – Cyber Safety and Cyber Bullying Workshops hosted by Becker College and sponsored by District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. and Ellen Miller
Educational and Recreational Opportunities: - Worcester Braveheart Game at Holy Cross, Attending the play “Rent” at the Hanover Theater – “A Chance in the World,” youth viewed a film based on the autobiographical book by New Bedford native Steve Pemberton, at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, New Bedford, MA
